Visit the Tuckahoe Library

The evening before was a dark and stormy night, but on the afternoon of Sunday, October 8th, 2006, the sun broke out from the clouds as the crowd gathered for the opening ceremonies of the "new" Tuckahoe Area Library, located at 1901 Starling Drive (near the Regency Branch Post Office, one block south of the intersection of Parham and Three Chopt roads).

In 1998,the Friends of the Tuckahoe Library -- with help from "friend" Sarah A.P. Raible --  conducted a survey of library patrons and others, asking what they needed and wanted in a new library. Residents said they wanted reading areas, quiet study areas, a large meeting/multi-purpose room, a large children's program room, a drive thru book pick-up and return, computer labs, a cafe for lunch and coffee, and (most importantly) much, much, much more parking.

A Bond Referendum was voted on and approved in 2000 that gave the "go" to the project. Today, the 53,000 square-foot new library holds more than 175,000 items that everyone asked for!
